This is a general list of questions and answers to shed some light on the way the site is run and stuff.
Q: What's the deal with the name...? "Forces of Good Anime"...?
A: It's an inside joke. Back before this page even existed, some of my friends and I, through situations far too complicated and strange to anyone not involved, we ended up creating two categories of anime. Good and Bad. Good being something like Robotech or Eva that is deep, insightful, and just plain good and Bad being something like Sailor Moon which is hollow and pointless. So when I created the site and needed a name, I turned to something that had developed within those situations (we called them Wars), The Forces of Good Anime, a rag tag group of favored heroes from our favorite animes which fought against the tyranny of the oppressive and horrible Sailor Scouts (don't ask, it's a LONG story and unless you're from SSU, you wouldn't understand). And since this page was to be devoted to my favorite animes, the name was perfect.
Q: SSU? Wars? Sailor Moon? What?
A: It's ummmm... Difficult to explain... SSU, is a chat that I normally frequent and have done so for a long time. As for the Wars... Let's just say they were... Uh... Interesting time killers on slow nights.
Q: What's this "Evil" you keep mentioning on your page?
A: "The Evil" is my little nickname for Sailor Moon. Why...? Because it's EVIL!!! DON'T YOU SEE?!!! DARK EMPRESS TAKEUCHI IS PUTTING EVERYONE UNDER HER SPELL SO SHE CAN CONQUER THE WORLD WITH THE HELP OF THE ZOMBIE SAUCER PEOPLE!!!! AAAAAAAAARGH!!! SHE'LL DESTROY US -ALL-!!!! (j/k) Actually, the reason for it is just because I don't like the show.
Q: But Sailor Moon is SO good! How can you not love the Scouts?!
A: I JUST DON'T, OKAY?!!! Actually, it's not that I didn't TRY to like the show. I watched it on and off for several weeks (at first to just to watch, at the time, I didn't think there was an anime I couldn't like) to see if it would get better, but it didn't. The show was hokey, predictable, and just plain dumb. I'm sorry if that offends any Moonies out there, but I DID try to like it. But it just kinda... Doesn't stack up. And while SM has somewhat made me skittish about Shoujo stuff (Do you have any idea how much I wretched in disgust after only ONE week of SM?!), I have seen that not all of it is as bad as SM. Nadia, who might I add is a Moonie herself and big Shoujo fan, has made me read MKR and it wasn't anywhere near as bad as SM. In fact, it's kinda interesting in a Slayerish kinda way. I mean, even though the show has the usual magical girl nonsense, its RPG ties are interesting so at least SM hasn't soured me to ALL Shoujo anime. And even though I might like MKR a bit, Shoujo just isn't my genre. My philosophy of alien bashing has always been GREATLY different from the usual and boring "Moon-Tiara-Love-Shock-Or-Whatever" and stems from MY own individual favorite genre.
A: Well... I grew up in the 80s. In the 80s, Fighting and Shoujo animes weren't as big as the genre that was the literal order of the day: Mecha Anime! The very first anime I saw was Space Pirate Captain Harlock when I was very little followed by Voltron and the pseudo-animes, Transformers and G.I. Joe. Back then, the way to deal with aliens wasn't to send a bunch of little girls in sailor suits to fight them; the way to fight them and in my opinion the BEST way was.... HEAVY ARTILLARY!!! Back then, heroes and heroines would use everything from souped up bikes to heavily armored transformable fighters to beat the enemy! Back then, sailor suits would make bad guys laugh out loud and the only thing that would strike fear into their hearts were great big capital ships with lotsa guns! Ships like the Arcadia, the Yamato, SDF-1, and more would pile load after load of cannon fire on the enemy, then finish them off with super weapons like The Main Gun and The Wave Motion Cannon. Now THAT'S a real fight!
A: Uh... Sorry. I tend to ramble on sometimes. Anyway, the anime genre that will always be #1 for me is the Mecha genre.
Q: How come you only have Dub actor credits?!
A: Well, I grew up with dubs and have always found dub actors to be good. Unlike purists who'd just assume spit on dub actors, I like and appreciate if not admire them. And since most of the time I watch dubs, I feel it only proper to credit their actors. Besides... I think giving them credits and positive support is a good idea. In Japan, voice actors are showered with endless attention and praise. Yet here, hard core otaku curse their names and make sometimes ridiculous complaints about how much they "suck". Personally, while everyone is entitled to their own opinions, I think this kind of behavior and attitude among my fellow otaku is just plain childish and idiotic. Now, that doesn't mean that all of the actors and dubs are good. Quite frankly, I wished Macross: DYRL had been dubbed by Harmony Gold instead of Best Video, then maybe the voice acting wouldn't have been so horrible. But in general, most dub actors are very good in general and there are even some who are incredibly good. Of course, nobody ever says any nice things about them because "dubs suck". If you ask me, the 'Net could use one LESS Megumi Hayashibara shrine and one MORE Barbara Goodson shrine.
Q: ARGH!!! HE LIKES DUBS!!! KILL HIM!!!
A: Grow up, Fan Boy.
A: Much better. So tell me, how does maturity feel?
A: Yes, they are mine. As for why they aren't on my site, it's because this place isn't an art page. It's an anime page. Plus there's no room on my site. While I'm sure you'd LOVE to that darling Fuchikoma sketch I drew, it would take space away from more important things like what I think the end of Eva meant or the combination of Captain Gloval's safe (old SNL joke).
Q: Hey, what's with the handle? And I don't get the joke.
A: The handle came from the very first PC game I ever bought, X-Wing. Back then I was really into Star Wars and I was totally in love with the game. So when I eventually got Wing Commander, I used the handle Red Leader for that game and it kinda stuck. Hence, I'm known by this name EVERYWHERE on the 'Net except for Nintendo.com, GeoCities, and Hotmail, where I had to add the rank that I had obtained in X-Wing in order for my handle to work. In other words, that explains the gen part of my E-Mail. Gen stands for General. Get it? As for the joke, go watch Saturday Night Live reruns on Comedy Central till you see the 1986 episode starring William Shatner.
