A NOTE FROM THE ISM ARCHIVIST:
Not all Anti-Sailor Moon content was created by people who considered themselves to be part of the Anti-Sailor Moon movement; even some people who enjoyed the show found certain aspects of it to be particularly irritating. Often, these grievances typically presented themselves as Anti-Character pages (whereby one particularly hated character is harpooned), or as Anti-Aspect pages (whereby an element of the show, such as its dubbing, is pilloried). The page reconstructed here, created by a self-proclaimed Moonie named Doom and connected to her fansite "Scary Sailor Moon," is a bit of a different animal.
This specimen, !!!Blacklisted!!!, is particularly surprising for a couple of three or four reasons:
- It's a small Anti section that's part of a larger Sailor Moon fan website, which wasn't common to see back in 1997--or at any point in time, for that matter. We call it an "Anti section" despite Doom's claim that she is a fan of Sailor Moon, which she probably is/was.
- This Anti section was found to be inflammatory enough to garner some hatred for Doom from at least one Moonie via email, and a couple of other folks via guestbook post. This section also earned Doom the stigma of leaning toward ASM ideology, which she vehemently denied was the case.
- It addresses displeasure with three characters, two of whom are the main characters (Sailor Moon by extension of the Serenity Family, and Tuxedo Mask).
- Doom was/is from Quebec, making this one of those rare international examples of Anti-Sailor Moon sentiments.
We do want to take a moment to point out just how unhinged the Moonie flamers seem to be in response to someone who is, by all accounts, a Moonie herself. Indeed, !!!Blacklisted!!! didn't exist on its own as a website; it was a section connected to a greater whole, a fan-page even. And, yet, any negative criticism, however esoteric, was apparently too much for some fans to bear--even to the point of attacking Doom's physical appearance (the photo referenced in one or two of the flames is lost to time).
ABOUT THE RECONSTRUCTION
The sole source for this reconstruction is the Internet Archives Way back Machine. While we've taken pains to present the original !!!Blacklisted!!! portion of the site in its entirety where possible (the Chibi-Usa section is sadly lost to time), we have chosen to replicate other select, relevant portions of the site in various different ways, including screenshot reconstruction and text copies of the accessible guestbook posts.
Where necessary/relevant, we present both the original page in French, and an English translation provided by Google Translate.
